A virtual archeology exhibition Augmented reality app Onder De Krook

'Onder De Krook' is a digital exhibition at the new library 'De Krook' in Ghent, Belgium.

The digital exhibition forms a unique combination of augmented reality with a conversational interface. For this project the archaeological remains of the Krook site were 3D scanned. Using the free app 'Onder De Krook' you are able to view these digital archaeological remains on the location where they were excavated, and walk around them.

As a visitor of the exhibition you get the role of digital archeologist, and use your own smartphone as a tool to dig up historical artefacts. You dig up the virtual objects by finding the seats with special codes inside the library. When you dig up a virtual object, you also meet a character who tells you about the object and the corresponding stories. The characters will tell you the stories about the history of the site or the excavations of archaeological remains, each from their own perspective. As a visitor of this digital exhibition you will get involved in these stories that all take place in different centuries of the city of Ghent.

The digital exhibition runs from June 16 - October 1st in De Krook, Ghent, Belgium.
