CRV Is the farming industry ready to wear technology?

Lava Lab visited CRV (one of the international leading herd improvement companies) for a knowledge session and hands-on workshop about dairy farming and technology. Different devices like Oculus Rift, smartphones and drones were discussed and mentioned, but the focus of this day was Google Glass.

After a knowledge session on design & technology and technology in the agricultural sector, we divided the attendees in groups to start a workshop. We started a brainstorm session about how wearable technology can help dairy farmers, inseminators and CRV employers doing their work more efficient to achieve a better quality for their work and a more efficient workflow with the least risks for mistakes. Different topics were pointed out to each team. In the second part of the workshop each team worked more in detail on one of the ideas by sketching them, researching all possibilities and ended by creating a paper prototype. At the end of the day, the results were presented by each team to the full group.

During the lunch break the CRV team had the opportunity to try Google Glass, the Oculus Rift and cardboard VR glasses themselves to get a better feeling on how this wearable technology works. They also had an opportunity to try the Oculus Rift and the Google cardboard.

CRV did get their hands on a Google Glass themselves before our session, but didn’t know that well how to start brainstorming and researching on using this technology as a helpful device that connects to their system. After this day their respons was very enthusiastic, the participants were inspired and found their way to use the technology and think in a creative way about possible solutions to use the device with their work.
